THE TRUTH OF CHRISTMAS
PART II

By the time you read this article, the Prime Minister would have announced the revision to the proposed tax packet delivered to the country last week by the finance minister. Some individuals may have been cautious in their spending, this season, not knowing what is up ahead in the next few months.

Do you realize that this is one of the most, if not the most stressful time of the year for very many individuals? Those who have fallen on hard times and no longer have family members around become so very depressed as they reminisce on what used to be. Many individuals usually go out of their way at this time of the year to make that big purchase for immediate family members and friends. Some are so depressed this season for the resources are not available this year to do the usual. So the experts are saying, instead of doing individual gifts, give a gift that will benefit the entire family and they are spouting great ideas on how not to spend as much this year and still have a great time. But let’s examine this whole celebration.

Jesus Christ came to earth to give of himself. We could never ever repay him for the sacrifice He made for us. It was so pure that even still today, after so long a time, salvation is still possible because of His shed blood. When He came, He did not come in a palace as one would expect the King of Glory, Creator of the heavens and earth to come to earth. No, it was ordained that He would come in a meek and lowly manner. There was no room for Him in the inn and so He was born in a stable. There was no baby-shower where His mother Mary received an abundance of gifts so that He had the pram and the stroller or the new blankets and diapers and new clothing. No, He was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger. Did that make Him any less, the King of Glory? No it didn’t.

Jesus Christ seemed at all times to shy away from the spectacle of the crowd that would draw attention to him. His work was to do the will of the Father and to finish the work that was given Him to do. From the day He was born, until the day He went to the cross, He was focused on the fact that His mission on earth was to take our place on Calvary. Praise God He finished the work assigned to Him and is now seated on the right hand of the Father.

May the people of God remain focused and not be carried away by pagan feasts and festivals. Like Jesus, may His true followers seek always to do the will of the Father and to finish the work that has been assigned to their hands to do. That in all things the Father may get all the honour, all the glory and all the praise, through our Lord Jesus Christ. May the peace of Christ which passeth all understanding keep your hearts and minds at this time.
