The Meat Law (Part II)

THE MEAT LAW?
(PART II)

1Co 8:8 “But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.”

We are back with our final part of this subject and we hope our readers have read and understood Part 1. As we stated in our last article, one main church has made the subject of eating certain meats a stumbling block for Christians in their service to God. What really does the Bible dictates on the subject?

Already we have noted what the scripture says in Leviticus about the clean and unclean meats that were distinguished for the children of Israel. Deuteronomy chapters 12, 14, and 15 are also important points of reference on the eating of certain meats. So far we have clearly shown that indeed God gave to Israel a law concerning the eating of clean and unclean meats.

The coming of Christ into the world was surely not for nought as He came not to destroy the law or the Prophets but to fulfill them (St. Matthew 5:17). The law referred to here speaks of the Ten Commandments which is still applicable today. The Meat Law, however, was not a statuary law as some would have the world believe. If so then what the New Testament books declare would be wrong!! The Bible does not contradict itself as non-believers often times say.

Mat 15:16 And Jesus said , “Are ye also yet without understanding?“
Mat 15:17 “Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?”
Mat 15:18 “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.”

The words of Jesus Christ let us know that what goes into a man’s mouth does not defile him, but it is what cometh out of his mouth that defiles him. Now that being said we could end this subject right here. There is much more written even by the very zealous St. Paul, but before we go to his epistles there is a well known story of St. Peter having a vision on his housetop (Acts 10:8-16) when he went to pray. In this trance a vessel came down from heaven with all manner of animals and he was commanded to kill and eat.

Act 10:14 “But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.”
Act 10:15 “And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.”

This story was not about meat itself yet God used the literal meat to explain the spiritual as St. Peter was to go to Cornelius and minister unto him. God in His own wisdom showed us that even the eating of any meat once cleansed by Him could be eaten.

St. Paul in his epistles encountered the debate of eating certain meats and he declared his belief in Christ on the matter.

Rom 14:14 “I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.”

From the 14th verse to the end you will see that no meat was considered unclean unless you yourself regard it as unclean to you. St. Paul said therefore a man that has no problem with eating any meat should not offend his brother who accepts it as unclean to himself. All scriptures are now bonding together as truly the word of God. The man of God when in Corinth again made known the will of God. You DO NOT sin in eating any meat because whether you eat it or not are you better or worse (1 Cor. 8:8).

Those ministers that preach that you sin if you eat pork, shrimps and certain other meats are not God’s true ministers but they belong to Satan. How are we sure that they are not God’s ministers? Let the Bible give the final word on this subject.

1Ti 4:1 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;”
1Ti 4:2 “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;”
1Ti 4:3 “Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.”
1Ti 4:4 “For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:”
1Ti 4:5 “For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.”
1Ti 4:6 “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.”

Only those that believe and know the truth can receive any meat, bless it and partake of it. Away with these false doctrines and false ministers that forbid to marry and command to abstain from meats!!! In that day the Lord will tell them depart from me, I know you not.
