WHO IS ISRAEL?
Deu 28:64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
Deu 28:65 And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the LORD shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:
Deu 28:66 And thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear day and night, and shalt have none assurance of thy life:
Deu 28:67 In the morning thou shalt say, Would God it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would God it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.
Deu 28:68 And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.
The promises of God are sure! Whether these promises are blessings or curses, they will come to pass just as God said they would. The above passage lists some of the curses that the Lord promised would assail the Children of Israel if they did not obey and do the commandments He told them to observe. Let us analyze this passage. Is there any nation that has under gone the destruction outlined in this passage?
The Lord said that this people would be scattered all over the earth. They would be scattered among every nation. Their way of worship would be taken from them and they would be introduced to other gods which were foreign to them. They would be forced to worship and serve these gods.
What a tragedy! We depend on God in times of trouble; in times of despair; in times of disaster; in times of pain, grief, sorrow; in times of need; in times of plenty in times of desperation. When one is unable to serve the God of his fathers, in these times it is devastating and demoralizing.
These people would also faint from the treatment of their capturers or the people to whom they were sold. They would be beaten, made to work from morning until night. They would be poorly fed, they would be unable to maintain families. The women would be used to breed more workers for their bosses. These children would not be even considered their own but the property of their owners. They would not be allowed to speak their own language and communicate with each other. They could not meet or gather together in groups. They would not have any self-worth or value but they would be less than the animals owned by their bosses. Truly, these people would faint in heart and spirit when they remembered the freedom they enjoyed in their own land, when they remembered their family life, when they remembered how they could eat what they wanted, when they wanted and how they wanted. They would live in fear of their lives every day. If they tried to escape, they would be captured and beaten or even killed.
Just as God promised they would live in fear of their lives hoping when it was day it would be night and when it was night it would be day. God’s words are sure. Let us observe and do them just as He said!
